No mother should walk her pregnancy alone. Yet across this country, millions of women are doing exactly that: driving an hour for a check-up, waiting weeks for answers, or giving birth in a town where the labor and delivery unit quietly closed last year.

In 2027, we're doing something about it. The Doula Mixer Tour 2027 is a national, city-by-city tour that brings doulas, families and maternal-health providers into the same room, so the support a mother needs is no longer a matter of luck or postcode.

“Let’s work smarter, not harder. It really does take a village, and it’s going to take everybody to improve the quality of maternal health.”
Charlotte Williams, Founder & CEO

What the Tour is

It's an experience, not a conference. The core set travels from city to city, and local doulas, providers and community voices make every stop their own. Each Tour day runs 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., local time.

Nobody gets handed a pile of flyers. Every space invites you to do something, discover something or meet someone.

The Tour's virtual home is My Bump Hub (opens in a new tab), where families can find doulas by location, specialty, language and cultural background.

Why now

1 in 3U.S. counties is a maternity care desert, home to 2.4 million women of reproductive age.Source: March of Dimes, 2026 (opens in a new tab) ↗
96+labor and delivery unit closures across 35 states, 2024 to early 2026.Source: March of Dimes, 2026 (opens in a new tab) ↗
3×higher maternal mortality for Black women: 44.8 vs 14.2 deaths per 100,000 live births (2024).Source: CDC / NCHS (opens in a new tab) ↗
47%lower risk of cesarean birth for Medicaid enrollees who had a doula, across nine states.Source: AJPH, 2024 (opens in a new tab) ↗

Louisiana, where the Tour begins, shows what that looks like close up: one in three Louisiana parishes is a maternity care desert (opens in a new tab), affecting nearly 64,000 women and about 4,000 births a year.

The same doula study found a 29% lower risk of preterm birth and 46% higher odds of attending a postpartum check-up. It was observational, so it shows a strong link rather than proof of cause, but it matches what families have known for generations: having someone there helps.

Doulas can't replace a hospital that has closed. What they can do is help a family understand their options and speak up.

What we're trying to achieve

  1. Connect families with doulas they can actually reach, in person and on My Bump Hub.
  2. Build local care teams of doulas, midwives, OB-GYNs, lactation consultants and community groups.
  3. Make support visible, so every mother knows where to turn.
  4. Grow the village, with around 1,000 people at every stop.

This grows out of what we already do: free reassurance scans through Worry-Free Wednesdays & Fear-Free Fridays, Bump Essentials and Bump Movement classes. Our founder, Charlotte Williams, is a UK NHS-trained midwife with 20+ years of experience who led COVID-19 healthcare operations in New York.
