Funding goal
Our 2025 plans estimate about $400,000 to fully equip, staff and operate one Bump Bus.
Our vision for the Bump Bus
We are raising funds now to launch the Bump Bus Initiative.
Every bus will have a doula and an ultrasound machine on board. The buses will serve maternity care deserts, communities where care is hard to reach, by bringing ultrasound and labs directly to families.
When it is not running as a daytime clinic, each bus becomes a birth-only ambulance, so mothers are never without help when it matters most. Our bigger goal is to raise funds to put a doula on every ambulance, so ambulances are equipped for births.
A doula on every bus
Every Bump Bus will carry:
- A doula, on every bus
- An ultrasound machine, for the same reassurance at the heart of our free sonogram program
Daytime clinic mode: a sonographer runs scans, joined by a midwife when one is available.
Birth-only ambulance: outside clinic mode, the bus is part of a special fleet called out only for births, staffed by paramedics or EMTs with a doula.
Together this will bring ultrasound, labs and, when it is needed, birth support directly to families.
Care that comes to the community
In maternity care deserts, the nearest scan or appointment can be out of reach. Instead of asking families to travel to us, the Bump Bus is designed to travel to them, bringing education, support, resources, referrals, outreach and Foundation programs into underserved communities.
The bus will serve the same families our other programs focus on: low income minority and military families and mothers facing barriers to care.
Where the Bump Bus stands today
The Bump Bus is at the fundraising stage. It is a vision we are working to fund, not a service that is running yet, and we will share updates here as plans move forward. Our goal is to launch in 2027.
