Building the pilot

We are in conversations with New York City Department of Education North Queens schools to host a pilot of the Maternal Wellness Apprenticeship Initiative.

Our goal is to partner with a New York-based college or institution so students can train at the Hub in Midtown and leave with qualifications.

The program is aimed at high school students who want to explore a future in maternal wellness.

The plan

How the pilot is taking shape

  • Schools: the program is planned with the New York City Department of Education, and North Queens schools are in talks to host the pilot.
  • College partner: we plan to work with a New York college partner so students can work at our Midtown hub and earn qualifications.
  • Mentorship: hands-on exposure to sonography, midwifery, doula support, lactation and more, plus life-readiness support such as banking access, savings education and professional preparation.
Why it matters

Growing the workforce mothers need

Our founder, Charlotte Williams, has been a midwife for more than twenty years, with experience across maternal healthcare, healthcare operations and workforce development. She knows how many rewarding careers support mothers and babies, and how few young people hear about them.

The apprenticeship is built to change that, with multilingual, inclusive pathways that treat lived experience and culture as strengths.

Careers students will explore

From midwifery and sonography to doula care, lactation, mental health and technology, there are many ways to build a career that supports mothers and babies. Read our guide, Careers in Maternal Wellness You May Not Know Exist, to see the range.

Schools, colleges and employers interested in the pilot can partner with us.
